Note: This taxon is in the process of being named as a new species. It is the most common native Clematis in Floyd County, GA and originally reported from this webmaster's property. Also, it has been introduced into the nursery trade from Anniston, AL.. The range is said to extend from the Coosa Valley in northwest Georgia down through Alabama and back into southern Georgia.

Habitat:

Calcareous flatwoods, outcrops, alluvial soils along streams.
